HomeMocha Girls on a MissionMocha Girl on a Mission: Farah Jeantel Terri Lomax July 15, 2013 1 Comment I’m a Mocha Girl on a Mission because… As a 20 year old woman, many look at me and say that I have not experienced enough to know how to overcome various life obstacles. Regardless of what I have been through I believe each obstacle needs patience, persistence, and peruse (3 P’s). I am a Mocha Girl on a Mission because as a social work student, friend, and open ear I share how the three P’s have helped me over come obstacles and hope to help others over come their struggles. Obstacles I’ve Overcome… Overcoming and controlling my anger was a difficult thing for me to overcome. I grew up in a family where anger and passive-aggressive tendencies were the main source of communication. I also grew up in a massive family, so if you wanted to be heard you had to be loud and stubborn. As I got older I asked myself, “Why do I need to be angry all the time and add extra stress to my life??” I realized in many situations that it takes more power to stay calm and collected. As I read the bible and became closer to God I realized that nothing should allow me to lose my peace. Proverbs 29:11 “A fool gives full vent to his anger, but a wise man keeps himself under control.” It takes a mature adult to chose to not give into anger. It took me awhile to figure this out and I am grateful that I overcame this obstacle. My Greatest Accomplishment… The greatest accomplishment I have achieved today would be attending college. I come from a family with a bad track record in education. My parents did not have the opportunity to go to college. Many of my family members did not even finish high school. Some of my family members who attended college never finished due to finances or pure foolishness. However, my parents came to the US and worked hard to send my siblings and I to college. I am proud to say that I have made it to my junior year of college and plan to continue to earn my bachelor and master’s degree in social work! Congratulations Farah! We celebrate you and we honor your greatness. Keep up the good work Mocha Girl! Would you like to nominate an exceptional young woman who’s living dynamically despite adversity?
