Mocha Girl on a Mission: Sakinah Salley

Sakinah

I am a Mocha Girl on a mission because…

I, Sakinah have so much to thank God for! He has been so good to me and keeps on blessing me the more I seek him for guidance. I have overcome many hardships and jumped many hurdles to get to where I am. It was only by the grace of God that I was able to overcome and live to tell my unique story. I am a beautiful, educated African American woman who takes pride in her education, career, and mission in life. My mission is to empower other women and teenage girls to find their self worth and to be confident in themselves. I wish to reach women and teenage girls worldwide and tell them how beautiful they are. My dream is for every woman and girl to know who they are and to be proud of that.

Obstacles I’ve Overcome…

I had to get over myself in order to become who I am today. For a very long time I was very insecure and found it hard to be secure in myself. I thought my self worth was defined by my relationships, friendships, associations and even interactions with others. I looked for people to like me and would do anything to keep a relationship alive. One day I realized the harm that I was causing myself by trying to be a people pleaser. I made a declaration after years of being mistreated, abused, rejected and ignored that I would learn to make myself happy. I learned to boost myself up instead of waiting for the approval of others, I began to tell myself I was beautiful and to embrace who I was in God. With God’s help and confidence in myself I was able to overcome a 10 year battle of insecurities. I am now secure in myself and loving the skin I’m in!

My Greatest Accomplishments…

I have a Bachelor of Science in Child/Adolescent Development and Special Ed. I am currently working on my Masters in Professional Counseling however I recently got my certification as a Life Coach. I am now a Certified Professional Coach who specializes in working with women and teenage girls who struggle with self esteem and confidence. I recently launched a workshop called “I Am Fearfully and Wonderfully Made” and it’s centered around women/teenage girls empowerment, boosting ones self esteem and uplifting women and teenage girls. I hosted it once and it has been popular ever since. Many are requesting it to be done again and  in the future, I plan to launch it worldwide. This is just a piece of what God is doing! I’m also working on starting my own nonprofit organization called “Redeemed for a Cause” which is also centered around women and teenage girls and their overall needs, dreams and vision for life.
