HomeMocha Girls on a MissionMocha Girl on a Mission: Lauren Wells Terri Lomax March 11, 2014 “There was a time when I felt lost and I just didn’t know what I wanted to do with my life. Even after 4 years in college, I went from job to job not being happy and trying to figure out what I wanted to do for a living.” I am a Mocha Girl on a mission because… I’m a Certified Personal Trainer in New York City who does not only want to pursue a healthy lifestyle for myself and my clients but I’m also on a mission to reach out to the masses educating them on health, wellness and fitness. My other mission is to inspire others that they can do any and everything they ever put their mind to and to NEVER GIVE UP HOPE! Obstacles I’ve Overcome… I have overcame many obstacles in life. Growing up in a single parent household presented many disadvantages for me. However, like everyone else I jump many hurdles (aka obstacles) on a daily bases. The field of health, wellness and fitness is becoming over saturated. Fighting my own personal battles of not thinking that I have what it takes to share enough information or not wanting to mislead my readers caused me to take a very long time to make a decision to step out my shell and share my knowledge/skills with others. Putting my fears and doubts behind me, I moved forward to pursue a career as a Fitness professional, started a health/fitness blog and most recently started my own business as a health coach. My goal is to help individuals with their health, nutrition and weight loss challenges. I still face these obstacles daily, but I just encourage myself that if I have an ounce of faith in myself, that will lead me to overcome ALL obstacles. One of my biggest mantras is “FEAR AND FAITH CANNOT LIVE IN THE SAME HOUSEHOLD.” There are many times I kick “FEAR” out packing!! My Greatest Accomplishments… At first I felt my greatest accomplishment was going to college and obtaining a Bachelor’s in Rehabilitation. My degree was great, however, my greatest accomplishments literally took place within this last year. Everything I wanted to do I did! There was a time when I felt lost and I just didn’t know what I wanted to do with my life. Even after 4 years in college, I went from job to job not being happy and trying to figure out what I wanted to do for a living. After some soul searching and guidance from mentors, I was encouraged to find something that I love to do, that I would do for free. During the time of feeling “LOST” the gym became my outlet. Often times, I’d give tips and workout routines to friends ( for free) never imagining that I was on the verge of finding my new career. Now please note, I wasn’t always a “Gym Rat!” I hated working out and didn’t know what a gym looked like until I had to get fit, build stamina and endurance because I decided to go to the U.S. NAVY in 2009! I know crazy right?! I was lost, I felt like I had nothing going for me and to top it off, I had a load of college loans to repay. So I figured why not, the Navy can pay my loans off, I can travel, get great benefits etc. Long story short, days before my ship date for basic training in Chicago, I had an accident resulting to a bad burn on my leg which delayed my ship date and later resulted in me getting booted out the NAVY!! So I was back to square one, looking for work again. But in that time span I never stopped working out. I found a new love, I began to feel good about myself when I saw great results with my body and more! My friends, family and colleagues would see my changes and instantly started asking me questions or we would start working out together! I had friends that would ask me to be their trainer and I would just train or workout with them never asking for money because it was something I just loved to do. Even though I wasn’t a professional trainer at the time, I loved helping someone get better at something. This eventually lead me to feeling accomplished and boosted my self-esteem. With all that being said, after all the obstacles and feeling incomplete from job to job I took my mentors advice and I decided to become a certified personal trainer in early 2013. AND THAT MY FRIENDS, IS THE GREATEST ACCOMPLISHMENT I HAVE EVER FELT! I have been working tenaciously to become the best trainer I can be. I studied to boost my knowledge and credibility by receiving some modality training certifications in TRX and training the pre/post natal client to gain a bigger clientele! Another great accomplishment for me was finally getting my blog out before the new year!! That was the last thing I had on my goal list for 2013!!! Moreover, I feel greatly accomplished by NEVER letting FEAR take me away from thriving towards my goals and dreams everyday. Sure I may be scared, I may feel defeated, but I keep going regardless and that is an accomplishment within itself! Follow Lauren on Social Media! Click here to submit your nomination!
