A Few Tips for Dealing With a Public Loss

Thank you so much for your help last week promoting my YouTube video! Many of you heard about the scholarship contest that I was working on. Last week I felt like I was running for office or something I was constantly promoting, thanking people for support and watching my YouTube views crawl. Long story short I didn’t win the contest. Yes I was bummed out but I was also really grateful for the opportunity. I just want to share a few tips for dealing with a loss; especially a public loss.

1. Thank those who’ve helped you. No one is an island and no one “made it” by themselves. Even in the face of a loss it’s admirable to thank everyone who supported your vision. Being grateful can also encourage people to support you the next time you attempt your goal.

2. Don’t be bitter. Bitterness doesn’t have anything positive to offer any of us. You could look for certain excuses as to why you didn’t win, but that thought process doesn’t promote growth. It’s wise to acknowledge any hurt from your loss and figure out how you’re going to move on or bounce back.

3. Be optimistic. Every loss presents an opportunity to learn, grow, reflect and regroup. Yes losing sucks but there are positives in every loss. In my situation, I got a ton of exposure, positive feedback and new followers! (Welcome by the way :))

4. Don’t give up! In my opinion, every loss means your closer to a victory. If you give up, you’ll never know how close you were!
