HomeMocha Girls on a MissionMocha Girl on a Mission: Jade Alston Terri Lomax October 21, 2013 What obstacles did you have to overcome to get where you are today? Lots!! Mostly financial. It’s hard to find ways to finance your creative ideas without taking on a day job. I used to have a day job but then I got almost NO music done. The most recent obstacle has been dealing with my heart condition. It’s pretty stable now, but I know that no matter what, things will come up. It’s always just a matter of how bad you want something. What did it take for you to achieve the level of success that you have? Persistence. That’s the majority of it. What are your biggest accomplishments to date? Anytime a person can say that my music has touched them, I feel like I accomplished something special. That means that my voice & my words resonated with someone on a deeper level than just the surface. That’s extremely rewarding and I’m so grateful for the opportunity. What advice do you have for another young woman who’s chasing her dreams but not getting results? I often ask myself am I working on path to reach my full potential?? If you aren’t seeing results it could mean that it isn’t your time or that you aren’t on the right path. The most important element of any form of success is being centered. What/Who inspires you when you feel like giving up? Beyonce, lol. Honestly when I’m feeling discouraged I watch videos of anyone who inspires me. Beyonce, Oprah, Jay-z, Warren Buffet, Sophia Amoruso, etc… It reminds me that these are real people, just like me, who set their minds to something and overcame all the obstacles in order to achieve it. It reminds me that I can do it too…It’s just a choice I have to make daily.
