Mocha Girl on a Mission: Diandra Gore

Obstacles I’ve Overcome…

One obstacle that I have overcome was being scared to embrace the Gift that God Gave me. I was very afraid because I didn’t want my life to change, and I was afraid people wouldn’t respond to me well and that I would be looked at as crazy for stepping outside the box.

I always knew I wanted to become a singer, or a performer!  I always had dreams that I would be up on stage and everyone would hear my story. But that’s exactly what they were, dreams. Sometimes I’d hear the crowd enjoying my music and despite their cheers and applause, I’d also hear a small voice in my head that said “You didn’t do well enough!” The voice in my head was often louder than the cheers. Because of this, I was nervous and nauseous all the time.

Being in an unhealthy relationship didn’t make it any easier. My boyfriend wasn’t supportive or caring, especially when it pertained to my goals and aspirations.

I was afraid to believe in who I was as a person and who my mother taught me to be. One day, I was talking to my good friend who told me that I’m better than any person who is trying to stop me from believing in myself and the only person that is going to believe is me.

After months of working on me, I decided to start writing message music. My intention was to inspire people to love themselves for who they are and to never let anyone deter them from success and the goals they want to achieve!

My Greatest Accomplishment…

Being a Resident Assistant at Neumann University
Being a Retreat Leader at Neumann
Going into my Senior Year at Neumann.
Teaching Dance to adults and children
Putting on my own show at the YMCA in Media, PA
Being a great Camp Counselor to my campers at the West Philadelphia YMCA

I’m a Mocha Girl on a Mission because…

I am a senior at Neumann University and working extremely hard to get my Degree in Communications and to be a very successful singer. Through my music I want to be able to speak to an audience that relates to the topic I am discussing. Examples include,  love, break ups, and the way the world want us to conform etc…
