HomePersonal & Professional DevelopmentHow to Look Fashionable Without a Sense of Style- While on Budget! Terri Lomax August 18, 2013 2 Comments My favorite color is pink, though I’m sure you got the memo just by looking at my blog’s design. A few months ago I found the cutest pink blazer at Sears, and it was on sale. I bought the blazer but unfortunately I really didn’t know how to dress it up. The outfit above may look simple but I’m telling you, my fashion sense is pretty bad! In this case, like many others, I turned to Pinterest for help. I came across the picture to the left and BAM, I was inspired! I already had black skinny legs and a white tank, so I threw on some black pumps and a few complimentary jewelry pieces and my outfit was complete! In my opinion, I have no fashion sense at all! The funny thing is, my friends and even some of my colleagues, always call me a “fashionista.” I have pictures that can prove that I’m far from fashionable! Although, over the past few years, I must admit, my wardrobe has become pretty chic! What’s my secret? I’m so glad you asked! Keep reading 🙂 Here are a few tips that have helped me to become more fashionable, or at least appear fashionable to others: 1. Google Images- Last week, one of my girlfriends and I went shopping. We were looking for discounts at Burlington Coat Factory! Let me tell you, I found the cutest pair of orange skinny legs. Once again, I didn’t know how to match them up with anything. So, I pulled out my phone and did a Google Image search for “Orange Pants Outfit.” Wallah! My life became so much easier. My favorite look from the search was the orange skinny legs with a denim shirt. Knowing that I don’t have a denim shirt (though I’ve always wanted to add one to my wardrobe) I searched BCF for the perfect shirt and I found it. My pants were $16.99 and my shirt was $24.99. I didn’t care for the shoes or accessories in the picture, so I wore stuff that I already had. Ignore the hat! The wind was blowing my hair around all crazy so I had to steal it from the boo 🙂 2. Pinterest- Back in the day ( lol yea… I’m not even that old) I used to be a shopaholic. I was one of the worst kind. I’d go to the mall to shop and I’d buy almost every cute “thing” that I could get my hands on. I was like a kid in a candy shop. I had no plan. No sense of direction. No purpose for my shopping adventure. I was wild. The bad part is, I’d buy stuff that was cute in the moment but ultimately, I had no use for it. I’d get home only to realize that I didn’t have anything to go with the item that I purchased. Sometimes, I’d never even wear the items that I bought! I may sound like an old lady but now, I prepare a tentative list of items that I’d like to purchase before venturing off to the mall. This keeps me on track and focused because I get easily distracted; especially in the mall. I usually visit Pinterest for ideas and screenshot the outfits I like the most, to keep them handy while I shop. You can easily sign up for an account with Pinterest and use the search engine just like Google search! Ok, so clearly his colors are way brighter than mine but yea, this is another Pinterest inspired look. My blazer is from Sears and the pants were a gift from my little sister, I think they’re from Rue 21 3. Swagger-jack the Mannequin- Marketers knew what they were doing when they started dressing up the mannequins. I’m a visual person so seeing an outfit on the rack doesn’t do much for me compared to the impact that a well dressed and amply accessorized mannequin has on me. There have been so many times when I’ve walked into a store and totally swagger-jacked the mannequin’s outfit and accessories. lol Recently I went to the Banana Republic outlet and fell in love with the first mannequin I saw. I must say, the outfit was pricey but I definitely could have found something similar, at one of my favorite stores listed below. I’ve never shopped at Banana Republic, but I may have to start! The quality and fit of their clothing is excellent! I love this outfit! The jewelry was cute but the price was not! They wanted $50.00 for the necklace and $30.00 for the bracelet. No sir! Instead, I went to the hair store for something comparable.
