12 Powerful Quotes from the Eric Thomas (ET The Hip Hop Preacher) Greatness Session

Over the weekend my fiancé and I went to Washington, D.C., to join world renown author, CEO, and motivational speaker, Eric Thomas, (“ET” The Hip Hop Preacher), marketing guru, motivational speaker and President of Eric Thomas & Associates, Carlas “CJ” Quinney and  about 200 other self-help connoisseurs for a one day exclusive Greatness Session. ET and CJ shared with us their story of overcoming obstacles along with a few key principles that took their business from average to great.

It was simply incredible. If you’re a fan of ET’s and watch his YouTube videos, I must say, his energy and presence is on another level in person. I’d encourage anyone in need of motivation to attend one of his live events. Below are a few quotes from my notes.

1. “Your feelings ain’t going to get you anywhere. Live by principles.”

-in reference to letting ‘how you’ feel dictate your actions

2. “Talent doesn’t work unless you value the person with the talent. It has to start with value.”

-your talent doesn’t guarantee success if you don’t value yourself enough to have discipline

3. “You will never get to where God wants you to be until you value your life.”

-valuing your life includes valuing your time and seizing opportunities

4. “It’s not how gifted you are it’s how much will power you have.”

-your gift is nothing without work

5. “You will not get to the next level until you can perform.”

–if you don’t show up and perform in your given arena, you won’t get to the next level

6. “If you’re doing it for money, it’s not going to give you the energy to succeed.”

-after a while the money and material things get old; you have to have a deeper ‘why’ to motivate you

7. “You know you need to leave when your heart isn’t in it anymore.”

-in reference to leaving your day job to pursue your passion 

8. “You don’t have a balance problem you have a priority problem.”

-in reference to work-life balance

9. “If you keep chopping the tree in the same spot it’s going to fall.”

-persistence is key; every failure brings you closer to a win

10. “You can’t get to the next level if you don’t invest in yourself.”

-at some point you’re going to have to seek out new information and counsel in order to elevate your life; be willing to invest in you

11. “Somebody is waiting on your greatness.”

-start with what you have and make adjustments along the journey. You don’t need to have all your ducks in a row to take the first step

12.“Know how much each person in your life needs and measure and prioritize it.”

-prioritization and measurement is the key to ‘work-life’ balance
